Kaynaklarda Mısır'a geliş yılı geçmeyen rihle yapanların geliş yılı, hoca–talebe ağındaki kronolojik sınırlardan tahmin edilir: talebenin doğum ve vefatı, hocalarının en erken / ortalama / ortanca vefatı, hoca sayısı. Ön kabul: talebenin hocasından hadis aldığı yıl, onun Mısır'da bulunduğu yıldır. Talebe modeli kaynaktan bilinen 132, üstad modeli 59 geliş yılıyla eğitilmiş; ikisi de 10 katlı çapraz doğrulamayla sınanmıştır. Eksik doğum yılları modelde ortanca değerle doldurulmuştur; bu yüzden içe aktarmada her tahmin yeniden denetlenir ve doldurulmuş doğum yılından türeyen ya da vefattan sonraya düşen tahminler sitede gösterilmez. Tahminler kesin tarih değildir; atlas ve âlim sayfasında "tahmini" olarak, kaynaklı yıllardan ayrı gösterilir.

§ 02 — Validation

Tested against years known from the sources

The model was cross-validated on scholars whose year of arrival is given in the sources: each year was predicted with that scholar left out of training and compared with the year in the source.

The table is recomputed from the validation predictions stored in the thesis file (rounded to whole years). The figures in the thesis report (§ 01) are averages over the folds, hence the small difference.

§ 03 — What the site shows

Every estimate is checked again

Missing birth years were filled with the median in the model, so some results are a by-product of that filling rather than a real estimate. These, and results falling after the scholar’s death, are not shown on the site.
